I am hosting my site on BlueHost and have not changed the theme for years. Although I have updated WordPress, all the old images in media library and posts are working fine. However, whenever I upload a new image, it appears as a blank square in the media library and in the post if included.
The only way to view the new image is by going to Edit and then to Edit Image where it shows up correctly. I have tried disabling all plugins and exploring various solutions for days, including testing a different theme, using a web image instead of JPEG, checking that the uploaded images were in the wp-content, and uploads file, etc.
I have also attempted to upload directly to the post, which displays the image in the post for a split second before disappearing without a trace. I also tried the drag and drop option, but the result is the same. Any ideas on what could be causing this issue?
Hello,
Have you checked the folder permissions for the folder where the missing images are located? Normally, the correct permissions for such folders are 755.
Hello,
Thank you for your response. I understand that you checked the permission for the downloads folder, but you are unsure if it’s correct. It seems like you tried to upload a screenshot to show the issue, but you received an error message saying that it cannot be done because there is no URL.
Please correct me if I misunderstood your message.

Tried changing 755 but it seems not accessible to change
Hi
755 should be the correct permission for the folder wp-content and also tends to be needed for all folders within.
As far as I know, you should be able to use the image block to show your screenshot. Did you try selecting the Toggle block inserter?

Great news!
I’m glad to hear that the issue has been resolved. It seems that the permission settings for most of the files were correct in the wp-content and downloads folders, except for the 2023 folder and its monthly subfolders (01, 02, 03, 04, and 05), which had incorrect permission settings.
You were able to resolve the issue by checking the Read and Execute lines of the World column, which automatically changed the permission of those files from 750 to 755.
Although the images uploaded earlier this month still do not show, you were able to fix the issue by deleting them and uploading new ones. However, you now have to fix many settings that were destroyed by deactivating all your plugins.
